On Tuesday 10th March, our class went on a Confirmation Retreat Day to Glendalough.
We were lead on the day by Sr Bríd.
Our Faith Friends, Liz from Holy Redeemer
and Joan from Queen of Peace were also there with us.
First we walked through the Labyrinth.
Sr Bríd asked us to think of the journey that our life has been so far.
She asked us to think about the highs and lows.
She asked us to look in the pool of water at the end to
see if we could visualise who were thinking about.
Next we stopped at St Kevin's Well.
Sr Bríd talked to us about the pure source of water,
and its importance in our lives.
She also talked to us about how the importance of
wells has changed over time in Ireland
We stopped at the river. She talked to us about how the river was very much like our lives.
The water was constantly rising and falling. S
he said even when the water hit the rocks it kept going;
similar to when we have problems in our lives, that life itself keeps going on.
Next was St Kevin's Round Tower.
Sr Bríd told us a little about the history of the tower.
She said it was 33 metres tall.
She asked us all to stand around the base of the tower
to see if we could surround the circumference.
History of Glendalough
We went into the Cathedral.
Sr Bríd talked to us about the different varieties of stone used
to build the monuments in Glendalough. Then we sang our
Confirmation Anthem;
"Spirit Filled Day"
We stopped at the Celtic Cross in the Graveyard,
and we each put our hands on the cross and
said a prayer of thanks for the things that we have in our lives.
Last of all we moved on to St Kevin's Cell,
and we burned our Confirmation Pledges
to symbolise our commitment.
